Fairy Rings - What are they?
Fairy rings are caused by soil borne fungi that are naturally occurring in the soil underneath a lawns surface. There are three main common types found in the United Kingdom, which we will discuss later.
Where has it come from?
Over 60 species of Fungi have been recorded as being identified as likely to cause Fairy Rings. The Old Wives Tale of trying to dig the ring out is a little counteractive as it is so easy to leave behind microscopic stands of fungal mycelium that will then go onto grow yet another ring.
It is muted that Fairy Rings prefer light sandy dryer soils but they can be found on all soil types.
