Amenity Assured scheme a significant step forward, says CPA

The Crop Protection Association (CPA) has welcomed the revised Amenity Assured Standard launched today (22 November) at Pride Park as a significant step forward.

Dr Anne Buckenham, CPA's Director of Policy said: "CPA was involved in the revision of the Amenity Assured Standard and believes that the updated scheme represents a notable improvement to the status quo. It sets out a number of legal requirements and good practices that must be complied with by those seeking to achieve Amenity Assured status and will help to raise standards of pesticide application in the amenity sector."

Responsible Spraying on Sports Turf

A Specialist is defined as a person who specializes in or devotes herself/himself to a particular area of activity or field of research, etc.

When it comes to offering a weed control service, you need to know what you are on about as it's quite a specialised subject. Many will claim to know a lot about everything and actually know very little about the subject.

Don't let the weeds grow under your nose

Ralph Waldo Emerson's quote 'A weed is a plant whose virues have not yet been discovered' is very true. Left uncontrolled, the most simpliest of weed will grow and manafest into a bigger problem.

A weed will quickly destroy the fabric of a path, building and fence line to name a few and then imagine the cost of making good and repair, all because the weeds were left untreated.

Removing the vegetation by mechanical or human means is expensive and time consuming when pesticides including total weed killers are very cost effective per square metre when assessed against labour costs of hand pulling. They are great management tools at your disposal,so why not use them to save money in the short, medium and long term?

The National Proficiency Tests Council - NPTC is the largest nationally recognised awarding body within the landbased sector with a history going back to the Young Farmer's Club Movement in the 1930s when the achievement of skill was encouraged through competitions at club, region and county level.

Japanese Knotweed Consultation Paper by RICS

The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is consulting on a new Information Paper which aims to help valuers and mortgage lenders consider the implications of a Japanese Knotweed intrusion when undertaking valuations of residential property in the UK.

Many a home owner hoping to purchase or sell a property with or without a mortgage can fall down on the survey when Japanese Knotweed (JNW) is found on the property or on a neighbouring property.

What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered – (Emerson). Maybe not but they can have a tremendous impact on a customers first impression of a garden centre.

An external planteria provides a rich environment for the germination of weeds, whether weed grasses like Annual Meadow Grass, or weeds such a Pearlwort, Mares-Tail, Rose Bay Willow Herb Bitter Cress or Groundsel to name a few and the odd Lichen thrown in for good measure.

The important factor is that a customer is not expecting to see weeds in a garden centre, especially when qualified and able staff meticulously tends the displays of merchandise to attract sales.
