Who better to train you in the safe use of pesticides than an organisation that is doing what you will be trained to do, each day of the year?
Weed Free are able to provide formal training and assessments for Food and Environment Protection Act Certificates of Competence in the Safe use of Pesticides. Each year, we train many Greenkeepers and Sports Turf Managers and Local Authority Staff. From one man bands to large groups of candidates involved in industrial site management including weed control, we have met some great people over the years and visited some interesting work places where the public do not usually gain access. Could this be your site?
You can purchase self learn NPTC / City & Guilds training modules and other publications here. It is much cheaper than attending a formal training course and all you need to do is to register with NPTC / City & Guilds and then arrange to be Assessed in each Module. See the finer details in the individual modules.
To summarise, the NPTC Certificate of Competence relevant to the amenity sector are in the main –
PA1A – Foundation Module - Everyone needs to have a pass mark on this theory module before progressing onto a practical applicator module. Assessment of this Module is completed like the Theory Driving Test using a Global On Line Assessment at a test centre on a computer. The question format is multi choice.
PA6A – Hand Held Applicator – Knapsack. If you only intend to apply pesticides using a knapsack or trolley sprayer like a F25, then this is the module for you to add to PA1 Foundation Module. The assessment is part theory based and practical spraying. You can be assessed on site using your own equipment so plenty of opportunity to practice beforehand to polish your skills.
PA2A – Boom Sprayer – Tractor Mounted boom sprayer. like a Hardi Sprayer or Team Sprayer or Quad Bike Sprayer. This module includes any self-propelled power unit with a mounted or fixed or trailed boom sprayer including a Land Rover with a sprayer on the back. This is the module to add to PA1 Foundation Module. It does not cover you for use of a Knapsack surprisingly! The assessment is part theory and practical spraying. You can be assessed on site using your own equipment so plenty of opportunity to practice beforehand to polish your skills.
As a pesticide contract spraying company, we have a wealth of practical experience relevant to the amenity horticulture sector which puts us in a great position to be a Pesticide Training Service Providor. Our sessions are both fun and practical and bespoke to client's requirements so long as all the units in the National Proficiency Tests Committee are covered.

Our formal teaching qualifications ensure that students get the best from our courses. They also bring with them a wealth of knowledge acquired from sound practical, commercial and technical experience within the Sports Turf Industry.
We are able to train on your site and minimum student participation is ideally four per session which allows our sessions to be very interactive and to promote hands on learning with candidates of a similar practical background and we can group candidates together from different establishments. We will make an additional charge to cover mileage and accommodation if training at your location, countrywide.
The training for each module lasts one complete day with assessment arranged on a separate day at a local assessment centre or at your site for the PA6A or PA2A modules.
