The death of a woman bludgeoned to death by her husband after he was driven to 'madness' by Japanese knotweed could not have been stopped, a report has found.
Lab technician Kenneth McRae beat his wife Jane to death with a bottle of perfume in their home on Rowley Regis, where her body lay dead for up to a week before it was discovered.
Police found a suicide note from Mr McRae, 52, explaining how he had been 'driven to madness' by the prospect of Japanese knotweed growing near to their home in Rowley Regis, West Midlands.
He also said that he had reported the uncontrollable weed, known to destroy buildings, but that nothing had been done, so he decided to kill himself and his wife, 55, rather than face years of legal battles he though were inevitable as a result.
Our comment on this very sad story is that Japanese Knotweed is not hard to control and no more than two chemical treatments will control it. Nor is it expensive to control so don't be taken in by contractors charging really expensive prices to solve what is not a major Japanese Knotweed weed infestation.
