January can be a slow selling month in a garden centre made worse by the heavy trading of Christmas items in the preceding months.
Once the Christmas sales have ended to shift the last of the stock at knock down prices, there is usually a time of consolidation and thoughts of ordering the spring time stock and planning spring season displays.
Gardeners and visitors to your garden centre expect to see what is in fact a garden in perfect order and your plant A-Z stock beds are the flower and shrub borders. Weeds we all know will grow everywhere and a weedy garden centre looks very unsightly, untidy, unloved and not very inviting to visitors and shoppers.
Weed control should always be a planned application rather than a reactive application. A programme of weed control should be implemented and this will involve a early spring blanket spray with a residual long lasting weed killer and also two translocated weed killer application in the growing season. The residual weed killer application can be so effective that if there is a pallet of stock that the weed killer when applied cannot get under, once the pallet of stock is sold or moved, you will soon get a 4 foot x 4 foot square of weeds and weed grass appearing in the spring.
If you own or manage a chain of garden centres, having a weed control company treat them all makes sound economic sense and you can be assured of a weed free image being rolled out across the group when local staff may see weed control as one of those annoying tasks that is always put on the bottom of the pile. All the external planteria needs to sprayed including stock beds and pathways and non crop areas in between retail space. Building lines, fence lines, block paving and slab paving also, anywhere where weeds are or may be growing, especially in the tree stock area where foot traffic is less.
You will have stock yards and out of public facing areas like staff rest areas that need to be weed killed and traditionally these areas are really weedy! Why should the customers be the only people who get to spend time in a nice weed free environment?
The Weed Free Team are a dab hand at multi site weed treatments across the country. We will draft a programme of weed control, visit sites to do an audit, provide all the health and safety information, liase with HQ and/or individual Garden Centre Managers and basically leave you to get on with what you are good at whilst our team do what we are good at.
So if your garden entre or nursery is a bit weedy, why not give the Weed Free Team a call or email your requirements. Put our 32 years of experience to good use. You will be in good hands but most of all you can really improve those first impressions when a new or existing customer walks through your gates.
