With the sunny weather over the weekend, Dandelions and Daisies were in full flower on the roadside verges, enjoying the early spring sunshine.
The March Equinox occurred at 23:21 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on March 20, 2011. This marks the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere and fall (autumn) in the southern hemisphere from an astronomical viewpoint.

With its clusters of pretty white flowers, Japanese knotweed was first introduced as an ornamental plant. But with no natural enemies in the UK it soon raged out of control, wiping out surrounding vegetation and threatening wildlife. The fast-growing plant can grow up to 13 feet tall and is so strong it can break through paving stones and tarmac.
It has been estimated that to remove all knotweed from the UK would cost several billion pounds. However scientists have identified an insect - the psyllid called Aphalara itadori - that keeps the superweed under control in its native Japan by feeding on the leaves and stunting growth.

Defra is seeking the public's views on the introduction of Japanese-knotweed-eating insect Aphalara itadoria to the UK to help control Japanese knotweed. Research Scientists have identified an insect that keeps the superweed under control in its native home of Japan and think it could do the same in Britain. If the plan gets the go-ahead, the insect could be released next summer. This would be the first time that biocontrol - the use of a natural enemy to control another pest - has been used in Europe to fight a weed.
